2010. The year I stopped seeing movies. It was by far the lowest amount of films ive seen in the theaters in many years. And it made me sad when I started thinking about it, but after looking at the lists of films that came out...I realized its Hollywood's fault on this one. Listen, I know, I should have seen Social Network, The King's Speech, True Grit, probably The Fighter and The Town (even though i hate films about Boston)...but I didn't see those. Instead I saw these films...and wrote about it.
The Book of Eli - The reveal at the end is kinda interesting even if its bullshit. Felt like Gary Oldman "light" for a bad guy. Is hollywood not allowed to make a film about the future of human civilization that doesn't involve humans eating each other? nuclear war? crumbling buildings? or just in general complete apocalypse. Is there any case we might make it and nothing happens?....just a thought. Probably would be a boring movie though.
Legion - Paul Bettany rides again on the ol religious/ action film! get ready for some more with Priest this year. I'm not even sure what the story was, loud and dumb, but i think Quaid was in it and shot a lady crawling on the ceiling...sorry Lionel Richie.
The Wolfman - Kinda liked the production value and art direction and Makeup. I know? I think it is weird of me to say that too. The story is retarded and really a stretch to make it seem like a fully huge story, its a bad B movie and should probably just stay that way.
The Crazies - Meh. It turns out its not that crazy afterall.
Alice in Wonderland - This was the first movie i saw in the theaters for 2010, 3D, i think it cost me $17 to see this film...yeah $17. I mean i get it, don't have to have a discussion about costs of seeing movies, its like people complaining about the traffic or the weather, its just part of the deal. But i really couldn't shake it from my head while i was sitting there and so, i didn't like the movie really. Alice in Wonderland is Disney to me and this isn't Disney, so on the to next thing Tim, to take someone else's work and make it "burton-esque"
Hot Tub Time Machine - Pretty funny, kinda feels it loses the rails at parts, the sentimental aspect seemed forced, should have just gone 100% silly and out of hand instead of "why aren't we not friends anymore" nonsense. 80s are pretty great if you think about it, go ahead, think about it. I'm right huh?
Clash of the titans - Just lame. I sat there wanting it to be good, but the characters and acting were especially terrible. And you would say, "really? as opposed to the amazing performance of Harry Hamlin?" and i would tell you to shut up.
Iron Man 2 - good, not great. Mickey Rourke was not the force that I was hoping, too comical and silly instead of making Rourke actually frightening and troubled, which shouldn't have been a stretch from him
The A-Team - Very fun, story sorta fizzles towards the end, the moving container shell game thing is dumb and Jessica Biel is useless, i mean she's not "useless" just whenever she opens her mouth, but the four guys are good together and the casting is as on as you can get. More Van would have been nice though and Face's Vette.
Predators - Technically this film is correct. There are more than one Predator in this film, what it should have said though is... Predators: Not that great
Inception - Best film i saw in theaters. Acting is pretty good, pretty good. The story and scope of the world these characters are in is the selling point. The effects are pretty solid too. I don't know why but it sorta irritates me when DiCaprio is in a good film.
Harry Potter - Worst harry potter film yet. which isn't fair really of me to say because how different would i feel if parts 1 and 2 were together? meh, probably not that different. Looking forward to the conclusion this summer though.
Tron Legacy - Amazing idea and almost pulled it off. The score is fantastic, the story is pretty good, just something about it missed the mark for me, maybe the actual lack of "Tron" in it and the really poor reveal of him towards the end. Made me want them to do another Last Starfighter......What do we do now? WE DIE...AGAIN...SOME MORE

And so it begins...a bit late, but the beginning of another year and the beginning of another list...of films i saw in 2009
This may have been the lowest total of films Ive seen in quite a long time within one year, but blame Hollywood, not me. Again only my opinion...
Outlander - I saw this film per Ralph's request and excitement over it. It was good in premise and bad in execution. I thought it was going to be about a space dude giving space weapons to vikings to fight some monster, but he loses his weapons down a stream? and has just his know how to fight the monster, like a outer space MacGyver. kinda lame and it takes forever to kill the monster in it.
He's Just not that into you - Before you start, yeah i know, I didn't really really watch this movie, I just fast forwarded to the part with Bradley Cooper with Scarlet Johansson in his office...its pretty cool. I don't know if the movie is good or not. Its probably lame.
Taken - actually not a bad action film, not actually a good one either. The acting in it all weird over the top Euro style, like a Mentos commercial but with guns and karate chops. Which now that i say that, sounds cool.
Coraline - a 3D claymation, that is terrifying. People with buttons eyes that are evil and secret hideaway doors. I liked it, but thats cause I'm 34, not 5 or 6.
Watchmen - I remember reading the book in the 80s and I remember not liking it. Heavy handed and super heroes with "real" problems and about them getting old and fat and bummed out, yeah, no thanks. The movie side of it is amazing, looks like the book in every way, but then people complained about that, "its too much like the book" thats the lamest thing ive ever heard.
I love you man - It was ok, funny stuff, the Rush parts are annoying, I think we can all agree on that.
Fast and Furious - It was a prequel to the 3rd sequel? Really? They drive in a mountain or something? I was confused but that happens a lot.
Crank: High Voltage - Loud and running around and stuff, I have a tough time keeping stuff from the first one and second one separate, i don't know if that means thats good or bad
X-Men Origins: Wolverine - This might be the worst film Ive ever seen. It is sooooo bad and ruins such a large part of my childhood, that I watched Episode 1: Phantom Menace and felt better after seeing Wolverine. It gets the award of the film "I should've walked out of, but didn't"
Star Trek - I liked it. It was a star trek film, kinda of. Lots of action, cool nods and one liners to the older films and stories. The Spock stuff and the kobi-ashi muru stuff felt a bit forced, but eh whatcha gunna do? Was eric bana sorta goofy in this? i thought so
Terminator Salvation - Why was this made again?
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian - Not the fun and spirit of the first one, funny parts for sure, but something was missing in this that they didn't keep from the first one
The Hangover - Its tough to see a movie after everyone has hyped it up for months and months and by the time you get around to seeing it have it live up to the expectations. But i got to say this one is close to doing that. lots of funny stuff, some dragging parts here and there but Zack G. makes the movie go. the only thing bad about this film is guys now are going to compare their bachelor party or weekends to this and will want to try to have "The Hangover" experience. Just forget it, there's nothing cool about having a tiger in the bathroom, you get a alligator in there, and now we're talkin.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - No, this is the worst film ive ever seen. I like NOT seeing robot's balls or their gold teeth or humping, thats just me.
Public Enemies - It was pretty whatever. Like a A&E documentary more than a real movie, some more back story on Dillinger might have helped. I think i was annoyed Christian Bale was in it and just couldn't get passed that, "hey save some for the whales Bale"
Harry Potter and the 1/2 Blood Prince - I liked it, i do admit i sat there and kept wondering for 2 1/2 hours when Professor Dumbledore was going to die cause thats the only thing people kept talking about.
Funny People - Weird movie, i really can't see myself ever watching this again. Really long and a real bummer of a film too. Sure there's funny parts, i mean "Funny" is in the title, but somehow trying to make me feel sorry for a uber successful and wealthy guy, but whose still a dick and treats people like shit most the time...eh you can keep it. Movies about "Hollywood" and movies about "making movies" sometimes makes you never want to see them in the first place.
GI Joe: Rise of Cobra - I gotta admit, this was fun. I was in the mood for a quarter pounder and fries and thats what i got. Yes, the super suits were moronic but it is Stephen Summers, so yeah.
District 9 - Cool movie. It felt like a bait and switch, like, "we're going to give you this alien sci-fi action film, but really its going to be a foreign movie from South Africa about Racism". Well done sir.
Inglourious Bastards - Better than i thought, i wish there was actually more stuff with "the bastards" since they are in the film's title afterall, but its standard Tarentino fare; lots of talking, some heavy violence, lots of talking, off beat songs, talking, talking, and some more talking for good measure.
Paranormal Activity - lame. Couple good scenes that made me jump, but lame.
Zombieland - I was ruined by my brother about the Bill Murray part before i saw it, but its ultimately my fault because i wanted so long to see it. Sorry Ian. Not as much zombies as a zombie movie usually has, but i thought it was good.
2012 - Its bizarre this was the movie i was most amped to see all year, it was of course was a mess of epic proportions, but you know going in all you are here for is the oceans and volcanoes and fire and etc. Its funny Roland Emmerich never lets the science get in the way of making a movie. At least there was no evil "cold" chasing them.
Avatar - On a lot of levels i was really impressed. The whole thing felt more like a ride and less like a movie. When it ended, after that god awful end credit song, i thought did i just see 10-foot blue cat people running around and was ok about it? I guess? sort of? The story and the acting is nothing worth watching but the effects are pretty cool and if they ever make a Robotech movie, they should have James Cameron do the fighter jet effects.
